Newcastle United, Tottenham make approach for Fikayo Tomori, Ruben Loftus-Cheek moves
Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Fikayo Tomori and Ruben Loftus-Cheek from AC Milan in the January transfer window.
According to a report by TEAMtalk, Newcastle United and Tottenham have submitted enquiries to discuss possible January moves for Fikayo Tomori and Ruben Loftus-Cheek. Tomori, in particular, is attracting interest from several Premier League clubs, with the latter also a target for many ahead of the January transfer window.
The struggles of Fikayo Tomori and Ruben Loftus-Cheek
Fikayo Tomori has gone from being a pivotal figure to a peripheral player for AC Milan. The 28-year-old defender made an immediate impact after arriving on loan from Chelsea in January 2021 and completed a permanent move in the following summer. While the Englishman was once a mainstay at the back for Milan and has made 217 appearances while chipping in with seven goals and six assists, he is a backup option for Ruben Amorim.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek, on the other hand, reunited with Tomori at AC Milan in July 2023, and he has constantly struggled for regular game time over the last three years. However, unlike his compatriot, the former Chelsea playmaker has featured more prominently for the Rossoneri. However, he has managed only 360 minutes of game time in eight outings thus far in the 2026/27 season.
Premier League return on the cards for the duo?
Newcastle United have an urgent need for a centre-back ahead of the January transfer window. Dan Burn and Fabian Schar are on the wrong side of 30 and approaching the twilight of their careers, prompting them to seek a centre-back solution from the market to find an alternatve to Malick Thiaw and Sven Botman. Signing a midfielder is not as pressing a requirement, but the reported uncertainties surrounding Joelinton’s future keeps them on their toes.
As for Tottenham, the Lilywhites hold a long-standing interest in Tomori. However, they do not need another centre-back unless they sell one of the players currently in their squad. But a midfield addition can be welcome, as Conor Gallagher has struggled to make his mark since arriving from Atletico Madrid earlier this year.
Apart from Newcastle and Tottenham, other Premier League clubs have shown interest in Tomori and Loftus-Cheek.
