Gessime Yassine urged to delay Chelsea move amid Everton, Newcastle United links

Moroccan winger Gessime Yassine has been urged to delay a move to Chelsea amid interest from Everton and Newcastle United.

Gessime Yassine has been urged to prioritise his development over prestige, with former Moroccan international Salaheddine Bassir warning the Strasbourg winger against rushing into a potential move to Chelsea amid reported interest from Newcastle United, Everton and other Premier League clubs.

The 20-year-old has made an encouraging impression since joining Strasbourg at the start of the year, taking his game to another level during the ongoing campaign. His pace, versatility and ability to operate on either wing have attracted attention, with two goals and two assists in seven Ligue 1 appearances this season.

Speaking to Africafoot, Bassir stressed that choosing the right sporting project could prove more important than joining a prestigious club.

“Choosing the right club can be more important than the transfer fee or the prestige of the shirt. The question isn’t just who wants to sign Gessime, but also which club can offer him the environment and tactical development necessary to reach his full potential,” he said.

The former Atlas Lions striker also believes Yassine must improve his efficiency in the final third to succeed in the Premier League. While his pace and technical ability are valuable assets, he must improve decision-making under pressure to convert pace and skill into goals and assists.

“A winger must convert his dribbles into assists, shots, or scoring opportunities. Progress comes from efficiency, not just technical skill,” Bassir explained.

Will Chelsea be an ideal destination for Yassine?

Chelsea could represent an attractive destination for the Moroccan, particularly given the structural links between the London club and Strasbourg through the BlueCo ownership group. Yet competition for wing positions presents a clear obstacle unless Chelsea guarantees a first-team pathway.

“Chelsea’s name alone doesn’t automatically make him the best choice. The competition for wing positions is particularly fierce. At this stage of his career, Gessime needs consistency, confidence, and playing time to learn and develop,” Bassir warned.

He believes a move to Stamford Bridge would make sense only if Chelsea presented a concrete plan for integrating Yassine into the senior side.

Newcastle United could also offer an opportunity for the winger to progress, provided his qualities suit their tactical approach and he has a realistic chance of earning regular minutes. Everton could similarly appeal if their managers see him as an important part of their attacking plans.

Ultimately, Bassir believes Yassine must assess each option on playing time, tactical fit, manager confidence and long-term prospects, not on the club’s name alone. Unless he is guaranteed an important role at Stamford Bridge, a move elsewhere at this stage of his career might make more sense.
