Crystal Palace view Rob Edwards as Pierre Sage replacement
Rob Edwards could emerge as a key name on Crystal Palace’s shortlist to replace Pierre Sage, with the Frenchman now under significant pressure to keep his job.
According to TEAMtalk, Crystal Palace have begun exploring the market for a potential successor to the underperforming Sage. One name to have emerged on their list is former Wolves boss Rob Edwards, with the 43-year-old currently available.
Crystal Palace are 14th in the table following their heavy 5-0 defeat away to Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend. The result has placed significant pressure on Sage, with the South London club reportedly considering several alternatives to the Frenchman.
Having arrived during the summer to replace Oliver Glasner, Sage came to Selhurst Park with a strong reputation for his work at Lens the previous season. The Frenchman’s preferred style, built around a back three, suited what Palace wanted, while his second-place finish in Ligue 1 offered supporters plenty of optimism.
However, managing only two wins in seven Premier League matches has increased the pressure on Sage, with the club now considering the possibility of making a change. There have also been suggestions of tension within the dressing room, meaning the odds are increasingly stacked against the struggling French manager.
Crystal Palace to pursue Rob Edwards?
Several names are already under consideration to succeed Sage, including former Wolves boss Rob Edwards. The 43-year-old manager has suffered relegation from the Premier League twice during his relatively short managerial career, first with Luton Town in 2024 and then with Wolves last season.
Edwards joined Wolves midway through last season from Middlesbrough in controversial circumstances and left Molineux following the club’s relegation. He is currently without a managerial role, but that could change if Palace make a definitive decision on Sage and pursue the former Wolves boss.
Crystal Palace’s interest may stem from sporting director Matt Hobbs, who also worked at Wolves. Hobbs is understood to be a strong admirer of Edwards and could be a major catalyst if Palace decide to bring the 43-year-old manager to Selhurst Park.
For now, Sage is on thin ice, although the situation could change if he delivers positive results. However, another defeat or two could force Palace into making a decision, with Edwards and several other candidates already on their shortlist to replace the under-fire Frenchman.
