La Liga outfit Athletic Club have on Thursday announced a fresh setback on the personnel front in the club’s first-team ranks. This comes amid confirmation that Oihan Sancet is set for an incoming spell on the treatment table.

Attacking midfielder Sancet was a notable absentee from Athletic’s training session on Wednesday, after taking full part in an open session the morning prior.

Murmurs surrounding a potential injury issue for the Spaniard therefore quickly began to spread.

And as alluded to above, on Thursday, precisely as much has been confirmed. As per a statement across Athletic Club’s website and social media platforms:

‘Following tests carried out on player Oihan Sancet, it has been confirmed that the player from Navarre has suffered a moderate muscle injury in his left soleus. His recovery will be monitored.’

News of Sancet’s setback comes fresh off fellow Athletic standout Nico Williams being forced into a premature departure from international duty owing to a fitness issue of his own.

Both are in turn expected to miss this weekend’s meeting with Rayo Vallecano.
