OGC Nice’s Xavier Mandza passes up France U18 call-up to recover from niggle
Xavier Mandza (17) one of the revelations of Ligue 1 in the opening weeks of the season, was rewarded for his form at OGC Nice with a call-up to France’s U18 squad. However, he has not joined up with Les Bleuets, ICI Azur understands.
Mandza has been a mainstay under Olivier Pantaloni. He has played in all five of Le Gym’s league games. He has done so as a defender, despite coming through the ranks at the club as a midfielder. He has earned plaudits for his performances so far.
However, he has spent the international break in Nice, rather than with France’s U18 side. Despite being called up, ICI Azur understands that he is suffering from some muscle pain. He is, nonetheless, involved in sessions with the first team at Nice’s training ground and he is expected to be fit for the return from the international break when Le Gym will host RC Strasbourg Alsace.
