50,000 pages: UEFA confirm receipt of Real Madrid’s latest Negreira documents in case against Barcelona
UEFA, European football’s governing body, have on Thursday confirmed receipt of a ‘substantial’ set of documents courtesy of La Liga giants Real Madrid.
This comes amid Los Blancos’ ongoing efforts to have arch rivals Barcelona punished, over the controversial ‘Negreira Case’.
The subject of Barcelona’s infamous court case has of course proven a prominent one in the media headlines in Spain since all the way back in 2023. The Blaugrana, for their part, have maintained their innocence throughout, adamant that they have not broken any rules.
And yet, they were formally charged by prosecutors, after being found to have paid out millions of euros to the former vice-president of Spanish football’s refereeing committee, José María Enriquez Negreira.
No immediate conclusion to the Spanish court case appears to be in sight, but as alluded to above, on Thursday, Real Madrid have taken things to the continent once more.
As per a statement released by UEFA (cited by journalist Fabrizio Romano) this evening:
‘UEFA can confirm that it has received from Real Madrid CF a substantial amount of documents related to the ongoing investigation into FC Barcelona in the matter involving Negreira, former vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (the so-called “Negreira case”). UEFA’s Ethics and Disciplinary Inspectors have also received these latest documents, which they will assess as part of their ongoing review of the case.’
According to Spanish outlet Diario AS, the new files sent by Real Madrid to UEFA consist of ‘50,000 pages, thousands of documents, evidence, and statements from all sides’.
