Why Scott McTominay’s Napoli renewal looks unlikely
Serie A side Napoli have enjoyed Scott McTominay’s resurgence in the last two seasons, with the player having also won the Scudetto under Antonio Conte. But the Scotland international’s long-term future in Naples remains uncertain.
Corriere dello Sport have some details about McTominay’s situation, clarifying that discussions between the two parties have been ongoing for many months. But despite that, no progress has been made over a renewal.
Even if there is a desire to move forward with a renewal, there is no agreement yet.
As things stand, McTominay has also expressed his willingness to sign a two-year deal. He is seeking to earn a wage of €8m to €9m per season, which is an amount that is out of the club’s budget.
This is leading to Napoli being quite uncertain about things, even if the club are keen on keeping him beyond the contract expiry of 2028. More meetings are expected but for now, they are far apart and things aren’t looking great.
