Referee Alejandro Hernández Hernández has provided an explanation for his call to show a yellow card to Real Madrid star Vinícius Jr. on Saturday night.

This comes with the Brazilian accused of calling into question the decision-making of the official.

Real Madrid were of course back in action on Saturday night, making the trip to Seville for a La Liga meeting with Manuel Pellegrini’s Real Betis.

When all was said and done on an evening to forget for the former, it was hosts Betis who emerged on the right side of a 1-0 result, thanks to a solitary strike from summer signing Troy Parrott.

The game’s final moments were shrouded in controversy, as the visitors were left seething with a string of decisions on the part of the team of officials at La Cartuja.

Post-match, as stand-in captain, the aforementioned Vinícius Jr. therefore approached referee Alejandro Hernández Hernández to demand answers.

And the official has since revealed precisely why this approach culminated in the Brazilian being booked. As noted in his post-match report, Vinícius was cautioned for ‘giving a technical remark about one of my decisions after the game’.
