No extended NEC Nijmegen stay for Rangers striker who returns to Scotland

As reported by VI, NEC Nijmegen have, after careful deliberation, decided against picking up the purchase option on Rangers striker Danilo. The Brazilian returned to the Eredivisie from Rangers in January, joining up with NEC Nijmegen after they lost Kento Shiogai to Bundesliga side Wolfsburg. However, Danilo struggled while on loan, scoring just one goal in 12 games. NEC Nijmegen have since picked up Kaj Sierhuis on a free from Fortuna Sittard, so appear content to allow Danilo to return to Rangers where his future will likely lie elsewhere.

Danilo cost Rangers a decent fee a few years ago when he left Feyenoord for Glasgow, going on to score 16 goals in 76 games. Yet, given that Rangers were more than happy to loan the 27-year-old out to NEC, it appears his time with the Glasgow giants is now up. Rangers do have a new head coach however.

Rangers also appear to have missed out on Westerlo defender Bryan Reynolds, who looks to be off to France to join Stade Rennais instead.
