Bruno Genesio agrees two-year Marseille contract

Bruno Genesio is set to put pen to paper over a two-year deal as Marseille manager, according to a report from L’Equipe. The former Lille OSC head coach was identified by Les Phocéens as the ideal candidate to lead the Southern Ligue 1 club with the latter entering a new era with the arrivals of Sporting Director Grégory Lorenzi and club president Stéphane Richard.

Earlier this month, Marseille initiated talks with Genesio, who had just left Lille upon the expiry of his contract. Several stumbling blocks – including Marseille’s possible exclusion from the UEFA Europa League – have eventually been cleared. Genesio and Marseille reportedly reached a contractual agreement a couple of days ago.

Genesio’s arrival also means that Habib Beye’s spell will come at an abrupt end. The former Newcastle United full-back replaced Roberto De Zerbi in the Vélodrome dugout, but he failed to lead Marseille to the UEFA Champions League. Talks over a contract termination are underway.
