Official | Sébastien Pocognoli leaves AS Monaco
AS Monaco have confirmed the exit of Sébastien Pocognoli. The Belgian joined in October but now looks set to be replaced by Filipe Luis.
Pocognoli replaced Adi Hutter back in October, and whilst he helped the Principality club progress in the UEFA Champions League before an exit at the hands of eventual champions Paris Saint-Germain, the club struggled in Ligue 1.
Despite a strong run of form that spanned from late January until the start of April, it wasn’t enough for the club to return to the UCL. Having got themselves back in contention, Monaco took just five points from a possible 18 in the final six games of the league season, meaning that they only qualified for the UEFA Europa Conference League.
As a result, the Belgian departs. A deal to bring in former Flamengo boss Filipe Luis has reportedly already been signed. In an official statement posted on Monday evening, Les Monégasques thanked Pocognoli and his staff. Artur Kopyt and Kevin Mirallas, his assistants, are also thought to depart.
