Ajax make enquiry for Arne Slot
Dutch giants Ajax knocked on the doors of Liverpool to enquire about the availability of their manager, Arne Slot.
According to Mike Verweij via Soccernews, Ajax recently enquired about the availability of Arne Slot, as they have been on the lookout for their next permanent manager. While Oscar Garcia has had a positive impact since taking charge of the first team, the Dutch giants have been looking at potential candidates who can succeed him.
Ajax’s new sporting director, Jordi Cruijff, hasn’t had an easy time since taking charge. He was the one who brought Oscar Garcia to the club. The 53-year-old was handed the reins of their first team, with the hope that he would eventually be ready to manage the first team.
However, the situation at the club has been such that he was promoted to the first team in just a month’s time. Garcia was asked to fill in for Fred Grim, who was shown the exit door 21 matches into his tenure, which had begun towards the end of last year.
The former Brighton boss has led them in six league games. They have three wins, two draws and a defeat. It is certainly a decent record, but that doesn’t stop Ajax from exploring the market for a new manager.
Ajax face rejection in their pursuit of Arne Slot
Jordi Cruijff is working hard to ensure he finds the right candidate for the job. The new sporting director is not afraid to aim high, and it was evident when he reached out to Liverpool to learn about the availability of their manager, Arne Slot.
While speaking on the Kick-off podcast about Ajax’s managerial hunt, Verweij said, “I was told once again that they also inquired about Arne Slot,”
“Slot is still very firmly in the saddle; he is simply continuing at Liverpool. I also understood that Arne Slot is not very keen to go to Ajax at this point in his career.”
The Dutch manager is in his second season at the club. While he led them to the league title in his debut campaign, the 47-year-old struggled to deliver the desired results this time around. As a result, he has been linked with a move away.
While Ajax did try their luck, their approach was turned down, as Liverpool intends on backing Slot heading into next season. Even the former Feyenoord boss is not keen on managing Ajax at this stage of his career.
