Arsenal not planning Cristhian Mosquera exit, Benfica links denied

Arsenal will not cash in on 21-year-old Spanish international Cristhian Mosquera in the summer transfer window, with Portuguese giants SL Benfica ruling out a deal.

As per a report by Record, as relayed by Sport Witness, Cristhian Mosquera has a future at Arsenal beyond the 2025/26 season. The Gunners have no plans of parting ways with the 21-year-old versatile defender in the coming months despite recent speculation surrounding his future.

Recent reports have linked the Spaniard with SL Benfica, suggesting the Portuguese giants want a new right-back in the upcoming transfer window. However, the Eagles have ruled out a summer move for Mosquera, who will unlikely leave Arsenal this year.

How has Cristhian Mosquera fared at Arsenal so far?

Cristhian Mosquera has made gradual progress since joining Arsenal from Valencia last summer. The 21-year-old spent his formative years in Spain and rose in prominence during his spell with Los Che, having been a rare bright spot in a frustrating 2024/25 campaign for the club. While the youngster has not been a first-choice starter for Arsenal, he has made his mark whenever given an opportunity.

The Spanish defensive prospect has amassed over 1,500 minutes of game time in 28 outings for Arsenal thus far, impressing with his ability to play as a centre-back and a right-back. However, recent reports have created speculation surrounding the promising defender’s long-term future at the North London club.

What next?

Recent reports have claimed that Cristhian Mosquera is a target for Everton while adding that the Gunners are open to sanctioning a loan exit for the 21-year-old Spaniard this summer. Others have linked the former Valencia whizkid with SL Benfica.

However, Benfica will not pursue Mosquera in the summer transfer window, and the Portuguese club’s stance is understandable. Jose Mourinho already has three right-backs in his squad, with the highly rated Daniel Banjaqui also rising in prominence this season. Additionally, Antonio Silva, Tomas Araujo and Nicolas Otamendi are top-notch centre-back options for Benfica.

So, the Portuguese giants do not need another defender unless a centre-back leaves in the coming months. Meanwhile, Arsenal will not entertain offers for the Spanish international anyway, so a summer departure has never been on the cards for him.
