Predicted Real Madrid lineup against Manchester City: Alexander-Arnold in for Carvajal, Mbappe in contention

Arda Guler and Trent Alexander-Arnold will return to the Real Madrid starting lineup when they take on Manchester City at the Etihad on Tuesday.

Real Madrid will aim to secure a spot in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals when they lock horns with Manchester City at the Etihad in the round of 16 second leg on Tuesday night. Alvaro Arbeloa has received a positive update on the team news front ahead of his side’s latest fixture.

Kylian Mbappe is fit and available to take on Manchester City on Tuesday, with Arbeloa including him in the travelling squad. Jude Bellingham is also in Manchester City with the group, but he will not face City on Tuesday.

The English international accompanies Eder Militao (hamstring), Raul Asencio (match fitness), Ferland Mendy (hamstring), Alvaro Carreras (calf), Dani Ceballos (calf), and Rodrygo (ACL) in the treatment room. Meanwhile, during his pre-match press conference, Arbeloa provided fitness updates on Bellingham and Mbappe.

The Real Madrid head coach said, “Bellingham wanted to come with his teammates to be with the team. He will continue and do part of the training, but he won’t be available tomorrow. I am very happy to see him getting closer and to feel his presence.”

“It will be very important for his teammates to see him training and tomorrow before the match, at halftime, or afterward. He is a player who will be one of the leaders, and he already is. It’s very important that he is here with us. Mbappé is already available, so you will see him tomorrow.”

Meanwhile, during his press conference, Arbeloa discussed Mbappe’s qualities as he prepares for the Frenchman’s return to the team. The Real Madrid boss said, “Kylian gives us different qualities compared to other players like Brahim, but he is also a player who connects very well. If there is one thing that Mbappe has for me, it is that he is a very intelligent player.”

“He has so many qualities, but I think one above all is his intelligence. He is a player capable of moving well into the spaces left by the opponent. As I said before, I am eager to have him on the field, to enjoy him and his goals, but also in the game, he will be a very important player.”

Thibaut Courtois is an automatic pick between the sticks, with Real Madrid lining up in a 4-3-1-2 formation in front of him against Manchester City on Tuesday. The backline will feature Antonio Rudiger, Dean Huijsen, Fran Garcia, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, with the latter replacing Dani Carvajal.

As for the midfield unit, there is no looking past Federico Valverde, Eduardo Camavinga, and Aurelien Tchouameni in the middle of the park, with Thiago Pitarch a backup option on the bench. Finally, Arda Guler will reprise the false nine role, with Brahim Diaz and Vinicius Junior completing the numbers in the offensive unit. So, Kylian Mbappe will be among the backup options on the bench for the away side.

Predicted Real Madrid XI: Courtois; Alexander-Arnold, Huijsen, Rudiger, Garcia; Valverde, Tchouameni, Camavinga; Diaz, Guler, Vinicius Junior
