Predicted Liverpool lineup against Wolverhampton Wanderers: Gomez in for Frimpong; Wirtz in contention
Joe Gomez will replace Jeremie Frimpong in the Liverpool starting lineup when they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux on Friday.
Liverpool will aim to secure a spot in the FA Cup quarter-finals when they lock horns with Wolverhampton Wanderers in the fifth-round clash at Molineux on Friday night. Arne Slot has received a positive update on the team news front ahead of his side’s latest fixture.
Alexander Isak is the most notable absentee, as he continues to recover from a long-term leg injury. The Swedish international accompanies Giovanni Leoni (knee), Conor Bradley (knee), and Wataru Endo (ankle) in the treatment room.
However, Florian Wirtz will be in contention to take on Wolverhampton Wanderers after recovering from a minor back injury. Meanwhile, during his pre-match press conference, Slot provided a fitness update on Wirtz.
The Liverpool head coach said, “He [Wirtz] trained half and half yesterday with the team. What I mean with that is he was a ‘joker’, you say over here I think, so he made the next step in his rehab. So, let’s see where he is today and if he then could be available for a few – a few – minutes tomorrow, in the best scenario.”
“We have a few, but we don’t have 11, as you know. But we do have a few options,” replied Slot. “I always have options to bring in and players you can bring in, you can also let them start. So we do have a few options.”
“But again, not for the first time this season that three days after a game, we’ve again dropped points. And that is something I’ve seen us doing quite a lot this season. And now it’s again three days after the last one. So, we have to be better than we were the last time we played Wolves.”
Alisson Becker is an automatic pick between the sticks, with Liverpool lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in front of him against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday.
