VfB Stuttgart’s Deniz Undav responds to Julian Nagelsmann’s interview
With 18 goals and 11 assists in 33 appearances across all competitions, no German player has a better output than VfB Stuttgart forward Deniz Undav in 2025/26.
The 29-year-old is in the form of his life, and is making a claim for a starting berth in Julian Nagelsmann’s World Cup squad. But, speaking to Kicker, the German national team head coach believes that the attack is “certainly one area we need to address.”
Niclas Fullkrug, Kai Havertz, Tim Kleindienst, Nick Woltemade, Jonathan Burkardt and Undav are all viable options for Nagelsmann, but it’s unlikely that six forwards will be nominated.
Reacting to Nagelsmann’s comments, Undav told Bild: “I haven’t read the interview.
“Ultimately, I’m a striker with good stats. I deliver week and week and try to earn my place.”
Regarding the lack of contact between the two, VfB’s goal-getter added: “I haven’t spoken to him since the winter break. He doesn’t need to talk to me.
“My arguments are on the pitch. That’s what I’m trying to show him. As long as I keep scoring, it’ll be difficult to get past me.”
