Predicted Liverpool lineup against West Ham United: Wirtz ruled out; Frimpong in contention

Jeremie Frimpong is in contention to return to the Liverpool starting lineup when they host West Ham United at Anfield on Saturday.

Liverpool will be eager to continue the recent winning run when they welcome West Ham United to Anfield on Saturday afternoon. Arne Slot has received a positive update on the team news front ahead of his side’s latest fixture.

Jeremie Frimpong has recovered from a hamstring injury and is fit and available to take on West Ham this weekend. However, Florian Wirtz continues his battle to return from a back injury after missing last week’s Premier League game against Nottingham Forest.

The German international accompanies Giovanni Leoni (knee), Conor Bradley (knee), Wataru Endo (ankle), and Alexander Isak (leg) in the treatment room. Meanwhile, during his pre-match press conference, Slot provided fitness updates on Frimpong and Wirtz.

The Liverpool head coach said, “Jeremie is [available]. He trained with us a few times this week so he is available. I don’t expect Florian to be available so that’s a disappointment, of course. Every time a player is not available it’s a disappointment and it’s also something I didn’t expect after last week but that’s sometimes how things can evolve and unfortunately this time not in a positive way.”

“No, at this moment of time, no [when Wirtz will return] – and usually when I say that I do know that but I don’t want to share it! But now I honestly don’t know. It’s definitely a shame. He has rhythm, of course, and in my opinion it’s already a big accomplishment of him that he stayed fit for such a long time because he had to make a step from where he played towards Liverpool, towards the Premier League, and that he stayed fit tells you a lot about the mentality and work-rate of a player, and the performance staff.”

“But unfortunately last week and this week he’s not available – and that is indeed a disappointment for him, but also for us because he played really, really, really well lately.”

Alisson Becker is an automatic pick between the sticks, with Liverpool lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation in front of him against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. The backline will feature Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, and Milos Kerkez. So, Frimpong will be a backup option on the bench for the home side.

As for the midfield unit, there is no looking past Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai in the double pivot, with Alexis Mac Allister reprising the no. 10 role. Finally, Hugo Ekitike will lead the line for the home side against West Ham, with Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah being the two wide attackers.

Predicted Liverpool XI: Alisson; Gomez, Konate, van Dijk, Kerkez; Szoboszlai, Gravenberch; Salah, Mac Allister, Gakpo; Ekitike
