Tottenham make approach for Darwin Nunez move
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in signing 26-year-old former Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez this summer.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, Tottenham Hotspur have made an approach to sign Darwin Nunez through intermediaries, and it will be interesting to see if they can get the deal done in the summer. The Uruguayan international is currently out of favour at Al-Hilal, and he needs to leave the club to play more often.
The South American attacker has fallen down the pecking order at the Saudi Arabian club since the arrival of Karim Benzema, having been omitted from the league and cup squads. The player is very much at the peak of his powers, and he will look to play every week. It remains to be seen whether he can secure a move to Tottenham in the summer.
Newcastle United are keeping tabs on his situation as well. The two Premier League outfits have made contact through intermediaries and it will be interesting to see if they can get the deal done. Both clubs could be exciting opportunities for the striker.
Nunez would be a superb signing
Darwin Nunez did reasonably well during his time in the Premier League with Liverpool, and he could be a useful acquisition for both clubs. They need more quality in the attacking unit, and the 26-year-old is capable of slotting into multiple attacking roles.
The former Liverpool striker is a hard-working player who will also help out creatively. It will be interesting to see if Tottenham or Newcastle United can agree on a reasonable deal to sign the player.
Nunez is no longer an important player for Al-Hilal, and they are likely to sanction his departure. They will not want to keep him against his wishes, especially when they cannot offer him game time.
Returning to the Premier League would be ideal for the 26-year-old. The Uruguayan international helped Liverpool win the League title last season and he knows the Premier League well. He will be able to settle quickly and help Tottenham or Newcastle improve.
Meanwhile, the South American striker is currently earning £400,000 per week at the Saudi Arabian club, and he will need to accept a pay cut to return to the Premier League. It is highly unlikely any club will agree to pay that kind of money.
