Borussia Mönchengladbach close in on Belgian loan deal for Eugen Polanski protégée Charles Herrmann

Dominik Schneider reports that Borussia Mönchengladbach are close to finalizing a Belgian loan out for midfield talent Charles Herrmann. The 20-year-old continues to play a regular role for the Gladbach reserves in the German fourth division, yet cannot break into the BMG first team.

Charles Herrmann made his Bundesliga debut this season

Upon his promotion from BMG II to interim head coach, current Gladbach head coach Eugen Polanski famously called upon his protégée in his debut match against Leverkusen. Polanski brought on Herrmann as a substitute and immediately trusted him to take a late corner. Herrmann ended up registering an assist on Gladbach’s late equalizer in the 1-1 matchday four draw.

Polanksi has continued to talk up Herrmann and some of the other youngsters who worked underneath him as the season progressed, but Herrmann has not seen another single minute of top tier action since the September match. Herrmann made five of Polanski’s matchday squads, yet remained unused off the bench. The Hannover-native did log some minutes as a substitute in Gladbach’s December Pokal loss to St. Pauli.

Polanski will surely be eager to ensure that many of the talents who worked underneath him at BMG II receive a chance at playing elsewhere. Polanski was, interestingly enough, among the team of Gladbach coaches who weren’t pleased with Köln phenom Said El Mala’s development when he was training within the club’s youth system.
