Galatasaray eyeing loan move for Soungoutou Magassa

Galatasaray will reportedly look to sign 22-year-old French midfielder Soungoutou Magassa on loan from West Ham United in the winter transfer window.

According to a report by Turkish outlet Fotomac, Soungoutou Magassa is the subject of interest from Galatasaray. The Super Lig champions are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a versatile midfielder in the winter transfer window. So, the 22-year-old West Ham United prospect has emerged as a target for Cimbom.

However, Galatasaray may not be alone in the battle for the Frenchman’s signature, as recent reports have linked him with Napoli and a few other clubs. Meanwhile, the Turkish giants want to sign Magassa on loan with a purchase option, and they have identified Raphael Onyedika as an alternative to the West Ham midfielder.

How has Soungoutou Magassa fared at West Ham United?

Soungoutou Magassa has endured a topsy-turvy ride since joining West Ham United from AS Monaco in a deal worth €17 million in the summer transfer window. Born in Stains, the 22-year-old passed through the academies at FC Sucy, RC Joinville, Saint-Maur Lusitanos, and FC Gobelins before graduating from the youth division at AS Monaco.

The French midfield prospect rose in prominence during his spell with AS Monaco, but he has managed only 808 minutes of game time in 15 appearances thus far for West Ham. However, Magassa’s stock remains high, with Galatasaray among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

Turkish adventure on the horizon?

Galatasaray’s interest in Soungoutou Magassa makes sense. The Turkish Super Lig champions have been scouring the market for a versatile midfielder heading into the winter transfer window. Recent reports have linked Gabriel Sara with a move away from the club, compelling Galatasaray to scour the market for a replacement.

Several candidates, including Manuel Ugarte, have thus emerged on Galatasaray’s radar, with Magassa also a viable target. The Turkish giants are keen on signing the 22-year-old Frenchman on loan from West Ham until the end of the 2025/26 season, with the deal also including a purchase option.

However, it is unclear if the Hammers are open to sanctioning Magassa’s exit on loan midway through the 2025/26 season when they are in the relegation scrap. Meanwhile, the French midfield prospect is not the only West Ham player on Galatasaray’s wishlist, as recent reports have also linked them with Tomas Soucek. It will be interesting to see if Magassa joins the Turkish outfit in the coming weeks.
