Tottenham have verbal agreement with Andrew Robertson regarding January move
Tottenham have reached a verbal agreement for Andrew Robertson ahead of a potential move this month, as Liverpool could sell.
According to Florian Plettenberg, Tottenham are closing in on the signature of Andrew Robertson this month and have reached a verbal agreement for the move. Spurs are in discussions with Liverpool over a deal for the experienced defender following the injury to Ben Davies.
Tottenham sprung a surprise on Friday after credible reports emerged of their interest in Andrew Robertson. The Liverpool star has been nearing the end of his contract at the club, as Spurs view him as a good signing this month, as they had been angling to sign a new left-back.
Tottenham’s name might have come as a surprise to many, as they have now reached a verbal agreement over a transfer with Liverpool. Discussions between the two clubs are ongoing to determine the finer details, and it appears Robertson could be open to the idea of moving to north London.
Reports from a few months on had indicated Robertson was ready to quit Liverpool, either in January or next summer, on a free transfer. There were further stories linking him with a move to Celtic, although the possibility of making the move to Tottenham probably holds plenty of weight.
Spurs, in addition to the verbal agreement, are now on the verge of getting the long-serving star to north London. They had been looking for a new left back following the fitness concerns with Destiny Udogie and the need to use Djed Spence more on the right-hand side, as they signed 19-year-old full-back Souza from Santos earlier this month, although he’s seen more as a developmental player.
Why are Tottenham signing Andy Robertson?
Robertson is an experienced player who has been at the top of his game during his long stay at Liverpool. The arrival of Milos Kerkez has diminished his role in Arne Slot’s side. Spours might have been the best available option in the present climate, as a move makes sense.
The real reason, as per Sky Sports, on why Tottenham chose to bring in the experienced Liverpool star stems from the serious ankle injury sustained by Ben Davies, which requires surgery. Robertson is now viewed as the replacement for the experienced Welshman, as his presence would add to the competition and strength of their squad for the second part of the season.
