Official | Borussia Dortmund send Julien Duranville to Basel on unique loan deal

Borussia Dortmund have officially confirmed Julien Duranville’s loan out to FC Basel. Westphalia’s Ruhr Nachrichtenaffirms earlier reports from Get German Football News and other sources concerning the details of the arrangement.

Duranville’s new loan club does not maintain a purchase option on the 19-year-old, but has secured a re-sale clause in the event that Dortmund eventually wishes to sell their attacker.

Statements on Duranville’s move

“Julien has been with us in Dortmund for three years, but he is still a very young player in whom we continue to divine great potential,” BVB sporting director Sebastian Kehl noted in a club statement. “However, due to injuries -among other things – he has not been able to show his talent and abilities to the extent we would have liked.

“The move to FC Basel now gives him the opportunity to gain regular playing experience and develop further,” Kehl continued. “We are convinced that this step is the right one for his future prospects here at BVB. We wish him every success during his time in Basel.

We are very happy that we were able to convince Julien to join Basel on loan, as it is not a given that such a player would move to Switzerland from a top club like Dortmund,” Basel sporting director Daniel Stucki added. “He is a very strong dribbler and explosive winger who was excellently trained at Anderlecht.

At Borussia Dortmund, he had little playing time recently but he can now get that playing time with us,” Stucki continued. “For a young player, playing time at the highest level is crucial in order to take the next step at a top club. We are convinced that Julien will help us ideally as early as Sunday.

I am very happy that the loan to FC Basel has worked out,” Duranville himself said. “I immediately had a very good feeling and it quickly became clear to me that I definitely wanted to pursue this loan. I’ve heard a lot about the atmosphere at St. Jakob Park and I’m very happy to be joining the team tomorrow.
