Borussia Dortmund finalise unique and complex Basel loan for Julien Duranville
Sky Germany, Sport Bild and Kicker are all currently reporting that Borussia Dortmund have finalized a complex loan deal to send exiled Julien Duranville to FC Basel. The multiple sources all also claim that a unique arrangement between BVB and Basel has been agreed upon. The 19-year-old will head to Switzerland on loan without a purchase option, but the Swiss outfit has still secured a re-sale clause.
Patrick Berger is among the journalists who note that Basel initially sought a purchase option for Duranville, but were rebuffed by the Bundesliga club. The re-sale clause constitutes a compromise. From the perspective of Duranville’s new loan outfit, this actually serves as a rather wise move.
Julien Duranville’s problems with Dortmund are well documented
In reporting on this deal, Get German Football News has repeatedly emphasized Duranville’s disciplinary issues under head coach Niko Kovac’s aegis. Even if Duranville’s loan stint proves a success, Dortmund may still wish to offload the twice-capped Belgian International this summer. Despite the fact that he hasn’t featured at ll for Dortmund this season, Duranville maintains an estimated market value of €7.5m.
