Celtic hope to take underutilized Eintracht Frankfurt defender Auréle Amenda on loan
Florian Plettenberg reports that Celtic Glasgow wish to take Eintracht Frankfurt central defender Auréle Amenda on loan. The 22-year-old has struggled to gain regular playing time with his Bundesliga outfit since joining from Young Boys Bern on a €9.5m transfer ahead of the 2024/25 season. Over the last 18 months, Amenda has made just 16 Bundesliga appearances.
Amenda came close to departing Frankfurt this summer
After a sale to Serie A outfit Torino FC collapsed this summer, Amenda has mostly remained on the bench this season. Eintracht head coach Dino Toppmöller handed him Bundesliga starts on only three occasions. Aemda also featured once as a starter under Toppmöller in the Champions League. The four-times-capped Swiss international hasn’t made much of an impression in any of his 12 overall appearances.
A nightmare outing against Stuttgart midweek led to Amenda remaining on the bench during last night’s 3-3 Bundesliga draw against Werder Bremen. This despite the fact that Toppmöller’s team urgently needed help in defense. It simply doesn’t appear as if the still €6m-valued professional maintains much of a future with his current club. Amenda himself is known to have lodged a transfer request.
Celtic rivals have already acquired Bundesliga players
Last night, Rangers confirmed the signing of wingerr Andreas Skov Olsen on loan. Scotland’s two Glaswegian clubs continue to chase Edinburgh’s Heart of Midlothian, led by Bundesliga veteran Alexander Schwolow, as Hearts seek to break a 40-year-grip on the Scottish Premiership title by Glaswegian clubs. It looks to be the case that another Bundesliga player is heading into the highly intriguing fray.
