The next Igor Thiago? Kaye Furo follows Brazilian in swapping Club Brugge for Brentford
Brentford have announced the signing of Kaye Furo from Club Brugge. The teenager has signed a five-year-deal with the Premier League club and follows in the footsteps of another Club Brugge striker, Igor Thiago. The Brazilian is having an incredible season in the Premier League, with 17 goals in 22 games across all competitions.
However, while comparisons will be made, expectations of what Furo will bring need to be reigned in. First of all, Furo is making the move at a much younger age than Thiago, who was already vastly experienced at senior level. Furo has shown flashes of what he can do, and clearly that was enough for Brentford to make the move. Committing five years to Furo shows they believe that these flashes will translate into something more tangible in the future, and given the clubs track record, few can argue against this.
Club Brugge certainly wouldn’t have wanted to lose Furo yet, but there was no way they could turn down the money being offered at this stage. The side have been excellent at extracting maximum value from their assets in recent years, and with a reportedly substantial sell on fee agreed as part of the deal, they’ve ensured they continue to do that.
So far this season, Furo has scored one goal, which came for Club Brugge in a defeat away to Sint Truiden. He has made eight appearances for the first team and nine for the second team. The 18-year-old has not scored for the second team yet, who have really struggled in the Belgian second tier.
What can Brentford fans expect? Furo has the physicality to be effective in the Premier League. He still has someway to go to be ready, but there is plenty of time for that. With five years to develop, Brentford have full control over how Furo can grow as a player. Loans will likely happen, but at some point he will hopefully be ready to show what he can do in the Premier League.
