Manchester United initiate move to sign Yan Diomande

Manchester United will reportedly look to sign 19-year-old Ivory Coast international Yan Diomande from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig this year.

According to a report by Caught Offside, Yan Diomande is the subject of interest of Manchester United. Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are also keen on signing the RB Leipzig attacking sensation this year. However, the Red Devils have initiated their move to secure the Ivorian winger’s services, thus leapfrogging the other suitors in the battle for his signature.

Who is Yan Diomande?

Yan Diomande has established himself as one of the best young prospects in the Bundesliga since joining RB Leipzig from CD Leganes this past summer. A native of Abidjan, the Ivorian winger spent most of his formative years thus far in the USA before moving to Spain earlier this year.

However, Diomande’s stint with Leganes ended after only six months, and he has hit the ground running for RB Leipzig. The 19-year-old has been one of the most productive attackers for the Bundesliga club this term, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in 16 outings in all competitions thus far. Meanwhile, his progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several bigwigs, including Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham.

A man in demand

Manchester United will dip into the market for a versatile wide attacker this year. They initially wanted to sign one player in the winter transfer window, as Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo were unavailable due to their participation at the Africa Cup of Nations. However, Manchester United can do with more quality in the final third. So, Diomande has emerged as a viable target.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s interest in Yan Diomande makes sense. The Reds are scouring the market for a versatile wide attacker amid uncertainties surrounding Mohamed Salah’s long-term future. Additionally, Luis Diaz’s departure has hampered Liverpool’s output in the final third. So, Diomande is an option worth considering, as he can be a long-term like-for-like replacement for the Colombian international.

As for Tottenham Hotspur, the Lilywhites are still searching for a long-term heir to Son Heung-min’s position despite parting ways with the veteran South Korean attacker several months ago. Additionally, they have sanctioned Brennan Johnson’s departure, and he has joined Crystal Palace this month. So, Diomande is a viable target for Tottenham.

The latest report has revealed that Manchester United have initiated their move to sign the 19-year-old Ivorian winger from RB Leipzig. However, a January deal is not on the cards, as the Bundesliga club will only sanction his departure for a big-money fee.
