Aston Villa in transfer tussle to sign Thiago Almada

Aston Villa are ready to be part of a three-way tussle for Argentine attacker Thiago Almada as Atletico Madrid might sell this month.

According to Fichajes, Thiago Almada is a target for Aston Villa this month as there are two other clubs vying for the Argentine’s signature. The 24-year-old South American genius could be out of Atletico Madrid’s plans, with the Spanish giants reportedly open to selling him in this window.

Thiago Almada was expected to form a big part of Atletico Madrid’s plans this season following his arrival from cash-strapped Lyon back in the summer. Not only has the 24-year-old South American genius failed to establish himself as a key member of Diego Simeone’s side, but the club are now potentially finding ways to sell him.

It appears, Atletico Madrid may have come dangerously close to their salary cap, which could prevent them from signing new players in January. There are a few stars deemed as dispensable, with the club willing to consider offers for Conor Gallagher and now Almada.

In the case of the 24-year-old South American genius, at least three clubs are vying for his signature, with the report stating his value at €25 million. Atletico Madrid might demand more given the player has a big upside in the future, as Aston Villa, Sunderland and Napoli are chasing his signature.

Villa are currently close to challenging for the Premier League title, and the presence of Argentine internationals Emiliano Buendia and Emiliano Martinez could help Almada ease into life at the club. It remains to be seen whether they are actively looking to bring the 24-year-old South American genius to the club, as Unai Emery does want a few attacking talents to add to the creativity in the team.

Thiago Almada to Aston Villa?

Having lost Jacob Ramsey in the summer, Villa did not specifically replace him in the squad, as Almada could be seen as someone in the same ilk. The Argentine international’s value in the future could also become a big reason to invest in the player, while he will bring plenty to the team, something he has failed to do at Atletico Madrid.

As for Almada, he has not played too much this season, and with the World Cup on the horizon, he’s one of those players close to the Argentina first team. Hence, regular playing time in a competitive environment will be paramount, as Aston Villa could be a big option for him to consider.
