Newcastle United rule out Raheem Sterling move

Newcastle United will not pursue 31-year-old Chelsea outcast Raheem Sterling in the winter transfer window, thus boosting the prospects of Fulham and West Ham United.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Raheem Sterling is not the subject of interest from Newcastle United. Recent updates linked the Chelsea outcast with the Tyneside outfit, but they have ruled out a January move. The development boosts the prospects of Fulham and West Ham United. Meanwhile, the veteran English attacker “is in no hurry to finalise a move away from Chelsea” in the winter transfer window.

Raheem Sterling and his situation

Raheem Sterling has reached a desperate situation after being on the periphery at Chelsea in the first half of the 2025/26 season. The Englishman has steadily seen his stock plummet since joining Chelsea from Manchester City in a deal worth £50 million in July 2022. Things have gone from bad to worse in the last 18 months, as after becoming a part of the “bomb squad” before the 2024/25 season, the 30-year-old endured a disastrous campaign with Arsenal.

The English attacker has not managed a single minute in the 2025/26 season, and he has no future at Chelsea. However, Sterling’s stock remains high, as several Premier League clubs have shown interest in him. Fulham and West Ham United are also keen on rescuing him from his Chelsea situation in the winter transfer window.

What next?

Recent reports suggested that Newcastle United had taken pole position in the battle for Sterling’s signature. However, the Magpies have ruled out a January move, as they “are not in talks for Sterling and have not made an approach” for a deal in the winter transfer window. That makes sense, as Eddie Howe has a stacked offensive unit and does not need a new attacker.

Meanwhile, Fulham’s interest in Raheem Sterling is understandable. The Cottagers are scouring the market for a wide attacker this summer amid uncertainties surrounding Adama Traore’s long-term future. So, Sterling is a viable target, with Fulham ready to secure the 31-year-old Englishman’s services once Traore departs from Craven Cottage.

As for West Ham United, Nuno Espirito Santo wants more firepower in the final third as he looks to mastermind avoiding relegation from the Premier League in the second half of the 2025/26 season. While Pablo and Valentin Castellanos have joined West Ham, the Hammers need more quality on the flanks. So, Sterling is an option worth considering for the East London outfit.

However, West Ham would prefer a loan move, while Sterling wants a permanent exit to end his Chelsea nightmare. Meanwhile, despite his desperate situation, the veteran English attacker “is in no hurry to finalise a move away from Chelsea” in the winter transfer window. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for him.
