Everton eyeing Edoardo Bove move

David Moyes’s Everton are interested in acquiring the services of AS Roma midfielder Edoardo Bove.

Edoardo Bove is keen on making a return to football, but laws in Italy prohibit him from taking any part in the Serie A because of his serious medical condition. As a result, the Italian midfielder is all set to part ways with AS Roma and move to a country where he will be allowed to take the field.

According to a report from IL Messaggero, Everton have emerged as a potential destination for the 23-year-old. The Toffees are looking to add more quality to their midfield, and they consider him an ideal fit for their project. While he might not be ready to play first-team football from the get-go, he certainly has the potential to be an important player in the long run.

Why Bove can no longer play for AS Roma?

Bove came up the ranks at AS Roma. He got promoted to their first team back in 2021, and in search of a more prominent role, he joined Fiorentina on loan in the summer of 2024. While he had an impressive start to his loan spell, he suffered a cardiac arrest against Inter Milan on 1st December 2024.

The 23-year-old collapsed on the pitch and had to undergo surgery. Since his heart is now regulated by an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator, he can no longer play football in Italy. While he is back at his parent club and has recovered from that life-threatening event, Bove has no option but to part ways with Roma.

The Italian giants are ready to mutually terminate his contract, which will also include a severance package for the midfielder, as he still has a significant amount of time left on his contract. Since he is all set to be a free agent, Bove is on the lookout for a new club, and there is interest in his services from England as well as the Netherlands, where laws allow players to play with a defibrillator.

Everton want to sign Bove

Premier League club Everton have emerged as a potential destination for the 23-year-old. They have a long-standing interest in his services and have decided to reignite their pursuit. The Toffees are willing to bet on the versatile midfielder. David Moyes seeks more quality in midfield and believes he could prove to be a valuable addition to his squad.

The Friedkin Group-owned club are ready to offer him an opportunity to continue playing in a competitive league, and it will certainly be in his interest. Since there are other clubs that are keen on his signature, it will be interesting to see if the Merseyside club can convince him.
