Tottenham join race to sign Oumar Solet

Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly compete with Chelsea, Manchester United, and Crystal Palace in the race to sign 25-year-old French defender Oumar Solet from Udinese.

According to a report by Caught Offside, Oumar Solet is the subject of interest from Tottenham Hotspur. The Lilywhites are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit by signing a centre-back in the winter transfer window and have set their sights on the Udinese defender. However, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Crystal Palace are also keen on landing the 25-year-old this month.

How has Oumar Solet fared in Serie A?

Oumar Solet has established himself as one of the most dependable defenders in Serie A since joining Udinese in January 2025. The Frenchman has made considerable progress in the last 12 months, becoming a mainstay at the back for the Friuliani.

The 25-year-old has made nearly 50 appearances thus far for Udinese while chipping in with two goals and three assists. Meanwhile, Solet’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs. Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur are among the prospective suitors vying for the French centre-back’s signature in the winter transfer window.

A man in demand

The Udinese defender has been on Chelsea’s radar for a long time. The continued interest makes sense, as Axel Disasi has no future at the West London club, while Wesley Fofana’s fitness is not reliable. So, Solet is a viable target for Chelsea. As for Crystal Palace, Marc Guehi will depart from Selhurst Park in the summer transfer window, compelling the Eagles to dip their toes in the market for a centre-back.

Meanwhile, Manchester United’s long-term interest in Oumar Solet is understandable. Harry Maguire has entered the final six months of his contract, and his future beyond the 2025/26 season is uncertain. So, Manchester United must scour the market for a possible replacement.

As for Tottenham Hotspur, Thomas Frank wants more competition for Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven’s spots in the central defensive unit. With Radu Dragusin facing an uncertain future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Lilywhites need a replacement. Solet has thus emerged as a viable target.

Meanwhile, the report has suggested that Udinese may be open to sanctioning a loan exit for the 25-year-old French defender. That makes Solet an appealing target, and it will be interesting to see if an adventure in the Premier League is on the cards for the Frenchman.
