Preston North End in transfer tussle to sign Finley Munroe
Preston North End are keen on signing Aston Villa prospect Finley Munroe as they look to bolster their chances of securing promotion.
Finley Munroe has been doing wonders on loan at Swindon Town, and his performances have attracted a lot of interest from clubs across England. While his contract with the League Two outfit runs until the end of the season, Aston Villa now have the opportunity to send him on loan to a club in a higher division.
According to a report from Football Insider, EFL Championship outfit Preston North End and League One club Leyton Orient are both keen on signing the 20-year-old attacking full-back.
Finley Munroe joined Aston Villa’s youth ranks back in 2021 from Chelsea, and he has only gone from strength to strength since. To ensure he gets regular first-team action, Villa ended up sending him out on loan to Swindon Town last summer.
The youngster has been on fire for the League Two outfit, with seven assists and two goals in his 23 league outings. He has started in the majority of their games, and when it comes to goal contributions, no other full-back in all of England comes close to him.
Aston Villa to make a big decision on Munroe’s future
Finley Munroe’s sensational performances haven’t gone unnoticed. Preston North End, who are currently fourth in the EFL Championship, want to further bolster their squad to increase their chances of securing promotion. They want more quality at left-back and feel in-form Munroe could certainly help their cause.
They have already registered interest in him, but they will face competition from Leyton Orient, who are currently in the English third division. While the loan spell at Swindon is clearly benefiting Aston Villa’s young full-back, they now find themselves at a crossroads with regard to his future.
They will soon have to decide how they want to handle his development. Villa could choose to let him stay at the League Two club, or they could allow him to join a club in a higher division in England. A move to Leyton Orient will further test his credentials, while a move to Preston will give him the opportunity to get a step closer to his dream of playing first-team football at Villa Park in the near future.
