Tottenham unlikely to land Maghnes Akliouche
Thomas Frank’s Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to win the race for the signature of AS Monaco attacker Maghnes Akliouche.
According to Dean Jones via TEAMtalk, Tottenham face frustration in their pursuit of Maghnes Akliouche. Thomas Frank is keen on bolstering his attack mid-season, and the Ligue 1 forward is one of the names on his wishlist. But they are unlikely to win the race.
Akliouche has come up the ranks at AS Monaco and has been a part of their first team since the summer of 2022. Over the years, the right-winger has featured in a total of 118 matches and has contributed 41 goals.
He has established himself as one of the mainstays at the French club, and his consistent performances haven’t gone unnoticed. While he still has over two years left on his deal, multiple top clubs are ready to prise him away from Monaco.
Tottenham are one of the clubs that are interested in signing the 23-year-old, who has eight goal contributions this season. The North London club have had a disappointing first half, and Frank is looking for more quality to help him turn things around.
He wants more firepower in the final third. The former Brentford boss seeks more quality on the flanks. Antoine Semenyo was their top priority, but he doesn’t seem keen on joining them. As a result, they are looking at alternatives.
Akliouche is one of the names on their wishlist, and they have been scouting the Monaco star of late. While they are very keen on his signature, Jones believes they are unlikely to succeed in their pursuit.
Jones’ take on Tottenham’s plans
While talking about Tottenham’s winter targets, Jones said, “Tottenham’s plans for 2026 are already beginning to look too ambitious,” began Jones.
“They have had a couple of tough moments this year, first with Eberechi Eze going to Arsenal, Morgan Gibbs-White staying at Nottingham Forest, and now they’ve been given the cold shoulder by Antoine Semenyo.
“I don’t think he will be the last. They are scouting players like Maghnes Akliouche (Monaco) and Yan Diomande (RB Leipzig) but those players have top, top teams looking to sign them.
“The likes of PSG, Bayern Munich… and no one is likely to choose Spurs over those clubs, are they?”
Akliouche is unlikely to join Spurs
While Spurs have ambitious plans for the upcoming transfer window, they might not be able to land their top targets. They would be delighted to have the versatile French forward in their ranks, but they will struggle to convince him to join them after a disappointing start to the season.
The 23-year-old winger is on the wishlist of other top clubs, and he is unlikely to choose Spurs over them. Striking a deal with Monaco won’t be that big a problem for them, as they are willing to spend big, but convincing Akliouche certainly seems like an uphill task at this stage.
