Real Madrid, Manchester City ponder swap deal involving Rodrygo, Rodri

European giants Real Madrid and Manchester City are weighing up a blockbuster swap deal involving Rodrygo and Rodri.

According to a report from Spanish outlet Fichajes, Rodrygo could be heading to Manchester City, while their midfield genius Rodri could end up joining Real Madrid, in what would be a sensational swap deal.

Pep Guardiola is a massive admirer of the Brazilian winger, while Los Blancos would relish having the Ballon d’Or winner running their midfield. Both clubs are seriously considering the possibility of a swap deal in the near future.

Rodrygo might prefer a move to Manchester City

Rodrygo was a regular feature in Real Madrid’s XI until last season. However, a lot has changed since Xabi Alonso’s arrival. The Brazilian international has rarely started games for the team in white, and he has only racked up 572 minutes of first-team action in his 18 outings.

While his contract runs until 2028, the player is not pleased with his situation and could look for a change. Despite his recent struggles at Real Madrid, Manchester City could still be very keen on having him in their ranks, as Guardiola is a huge fan of the 24-year-old.

The Spanish manager was full of praise for the Brazilian after he bagged a goal in their 2-1 Champions League defeat to City. His ability to feature anywhere in attack could come in handy, and given his massive potential, he could become one of the faces of their project moving forward.

Why Real Madrid would love to have Rodri?

Meanwhile, Rodri is widely regarded as one of the best midfielders in the world. The 29-year-old has struggled with injuries in the recent past. Despite that, Los Blancos would love to have him in their squad as he could be the one dictating the pace of the games for Xabi Alonso’s team.

While Aurelien Tchouameni has done wonders for the Spanish giants, Rodri could be an upgrade on him. The midfield duo could even start together, giving them a strong base in the centre of the park. Negotiations certainly won’t be that straightforward, as both players are highly valued at their respective clubs.

But both outfits do feel that a swap deal could benefit all parties involved. Manchester City will get a young winger, who will only get better with time, while Real Madrid will have an immediate fix for their midfield. It will be interesting to see if talks actually progress and whether the players give the green light to the move.
