OGC Nice set unwanted records on sombre night in Europa League
It was a sombre night at the Allianz Riviera as OGC Nice were knocked out of the UEFA Europa League. Pointless after six games, they are rock bottom of the table and no longer have any chance of progressing.
But the 1-0 defeat at the hands of SC Braga, beyond being the final nail in the coffin of their European campaign, was a record-setting night. It was Nice’s eighth consecutive defeat in all competitions, the worst run in the French club’s history.
Franck Haise’s side are also now without a win in European competition in 18 games. It is the longest run without a win of any French club in history. “Losing matches doesn’t please anyone. When you lose eight, it doesn’t please anyone,” reacted Haise in a post-match press conference attended by Get French Football News.
He said that his side would have to “get their heads straight” ahead of Sunday’s match away to Ligue 1 leaders RC Lens. The club’s infernal run risks extending further.
