Wayne Rooney slams Mohammed Salah for his latest outburst
Wayne Rooney believes Mohamed Salah risks wasting away his legacy at Liverpool following the Egyptian’s explosive interview at the weekend.
Mohamed Salah has stirred a big pot of uncertainties following his explosive interview after Liverpool’s draw away at Leeds United. The interview in the mixed zone has caused a bit of a stir in the corridors of the club, which has raised a lot of questions regarding the Egyptian’s future.
As a highlight of what he said in that interview, Salah stated the club had thrown him under the bus following the lack of good results this season. He also insisted the relationship with manager Arne Slot is broken at the moment, and many took that comment as a hint to want the manager gone from the club.
As per multiple reports from credible Liverpool-based journalists, the club are backing Slot in this saga, and that could hint towards the club considering Salah’s departure. The Egyptian also pointed out that never before in his career had he sat on the bench for three games, and Slot’s decision to keep him there against Leeds United was the main reason for the outburst.
A lot has been said and speculated since that interview, with the focus clearly on Salah’s immediate future. The winger also stated in the interview that he will say goodbye to the Liverpool crowd at the weekend when they face Brighton, as he leaves to represent Egypt at the AFCON. While that may be the reason, speculators have stated it might be the final goodbye to the Anfield audience.
Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has had his say in the saga, as he stated that Salah risks wasting away his legacy at the club with the comments he made. Rooney also stated it is Salah who has thrown Liverpool under the bus and more, as the former Red Devils legend had his say on his latest podcast episode on the BBC.
Rooney started with what Arne Slot should do and said, “Arne Slot has to show his authority and pull him in and say, ‘you are not travelling with the team, what you said is not acceptable’.”
“Take yourself off to Afcon and let everything calm down. If I were him, there would be no way he would be in the team.”
Meanwhile, he reserved some strong words for Salah and insisted he could throw away his legacy.
Rooney continued, “He is absolutely destroying his legacy at Liverpool,” added the five-time Premier League winner.”
“It would be sad for him to throw it all away. He’s gone about it all wrong.”
“If I were one of his teammates, I wouldn’t be happy at all with what he said because this is where Liverpool needs him most.
“If anything, he has thrown Liverpool under the bus with his words.
“He’s been absolutely incredible for Liverpool, but this was disrespectful to his team-mates, manager and fans.
“I would imagine he will be very quiet around the training ground and that will bring a negative energy in itself to the new players Arne has bedded in.
“I am sure over the next couple of years he will regret saying what he has.”
Rooney might have an element of sense in what he said, as Salah risks losing a lot of his credibility. For now, the future of the forward remains unclear. For now, Liverpool have chosen to drop the player for the trip to Inter Milan, although there’s a possibility he might play at the weekend against Brighton, in what could potentially become his last ever game for the club and at Anfield.
