Leeds United could miss out on Ange Postecoglou
Relegation-threatened Leeds United could miss out on the opportunity to appoint Ange Postecoglou as their next boss.
Ange Postecoglou remains quite high on the wishlist of multiple English clubs despite being sacked by Nottingham Forest in a matter of weeks. Leeds United are one of the clubs that are keen on his signature, but according to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, the Yorkshire-based outfit might miss out on him following their decision to back Daniel Farke for now.
Farke guided Leeds back to the Premier League with an impressive campaign in the Championship last time out. However, their return to the top flight hasn’t been that great, as they have been in and around the relegation zone throughout.
The pressure has been mounting on the manager, with fans calling for a change in the hot seat. The club wants to ensure they continue in the Premier League at all costs. As a result, they were also considering bringing in a new manager.
Ange Postecoglou has been quite high on their wishlist since the start. After being sacked by Tottenham despite guiding them to the Europa League title, the Australian returned to action with Nottingham after they sacked Nuno Espirito Santo.
However, the stint didn’t go as planned, as he was sacked just eight matches into his new job. Despite his horror show at Nottingham, English clubs still remain keen on his signature. While Leeds are one of the clubs that are keen on his signature, they might struggle to get him on their bench amidst all the interest in his services from across England.
O’Rourke on interest in Postecoglou’s services
While speaking about Postecoglou’s future on the Inside Track podcast, O’Rourke said: “He’s going to be popular amongst clubs if clubs are looking to change the manager because he’s one of the best free and available managers out there right now.
“We know he got a lot of flak at Tottenham, but he still won a trophy there. For me, he didn’t get the time to change things around at Nottingham Forest.
“Obviously, the club decided to part ways with him after a slow start to life at the City Ground.
“But, he’s a proven winner, he proved that up at Celtic, he brought a trophy to Tottenham and we’ve seen problems this season.
“For me, he’s still a top manager and that’s why he’s probably being linked with a number of these clubs who are maybe considering managerial changes.
“I think he won’t be rushing into anything and he’ll probably take his time where he decides he wants to continue his managerial career.”
Leeds could miss out on Postecoglou
While Leeds were ready to part ways with Farke, they have decided to back him for now following their impressive 3-1 win over Chelsea. That win bought him a bit more time, and he has backed it up with an impressive 3-3 draw against Liverpool.
As a result, the Yorkshire-based outfit might not sack him anytime soon. With interest in Postecoglou increasing with every passing day, Leeds might no longer have the option to appoint him as their new manager if they continue to stick with Farke in the coming weeks.
