Liverpool, Tottenham front-runners to sign Yan Diomande
Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur reportedly lead the race to sign 19-year-old Ivorian winger Yan Diomande from Bundesliga club RB Leipzig.
According to a report by Sacha Tavolieri on Sky Sport Switzerland, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are keen on signing Yan Diomande. The RB Leipzig attacking sensation is also the subject of interest from Barcelona. However, the two Premier League clubs are in pole position to sign the Ivory Coast youth international after advancing their talks with the youngster’s agents.
Who is Yan Diomande?
Yan Diomande has established himself as one of the best young prospects in the Bundesliga since joining RB Leipzig from CD Leganes this past summer. A native of Abidjan, the Ivorian winger spent most of his formative years thus far in the USA before moving to Spain earlier this year.
However, Diomande’s spell with CD Leganes ended after only six months, and he has hit the ground running at RB Leipzig. The 19-year-old has been one of the most productive attackers for the Bundesliga club this season, scoring four goals and providing four assists in 14 appearances in all competitions thus far. Meanwhile, his progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several bigwigs, including Liverpool, Tottenham, and Barcelona.
A man in demand
It is hardly surprising that the Ivory Coast youth international is a target for Barcelona. The Catalan giants never waste any opportunity to sign a promising prospect, particularly if he does not cost a bomb. Diomande has thus emerged as a viable target, as Barcelona will aim to beef up the offensive unit next summer.
Meanwhile, Liverpool’s interest in Yan Diomande is understandable. The Reds are scouring the market for a versatile wide attacker amid uncertainties surrounding Mohamed Salah’s long-term future. Additionally, Luis Diaz’s departure has adversely affected Liverpool, and Diomande can be a long-term like-for-like replacement at the Merseyside club.
As for Tottenham Hotspur, the Lilywhites are still searching for a long-term heir to Son Heung-min’s position despite parting ways with the veteran South Korean attacker several months ago. Diomande has thus emerged as a viable target for Tottenham.
The latest report has revealed that Liverpool and Tottenham are the front-runners to sign the 19-year-old Ivorian winger from RB Leipzig after advancing talks with his entourage. So, Barcelona may fall behind in the battle for the youngster’s signature unless they step up in the coming months. Meanwhile, the Bundesliga giants “have not publicly set a price” and are waiting for the “right moment” to do so.
