Atalanta Plotting to Keep in-Demand Duo Amid Chatter
Atalanta are bracing for another challenging window, considering the situations involving Ademola Lookman and Ederson. However, their position is clear, as they don’t want to gut their team mid-season, Fabrizio Romano reports (via SOSFanta).
The Nigerian star has looked re-energized following a coaching change and has hit the net in his last two starts. Galatasaray are after him and opened talks with his entourage, proposing lofty wages. However, there have been no contacts with La Dea at this stage. The player might try to force his way out, as he did in the summer, if he were persuaded by the suitors. There are no indications of that for now.
Atalanta intend to do whatever they can to keep hold of both Lookman and Ederson in January. They need them to stage a comeback in Serie A. They are in 12th place due to their woes under Ivan Juric.
The Brazilian midfielder will be a juicy option for many sides since his contract runs out in 2027, limiting the Bergamaschi’s leverage. But they plot to resist in the upcoming window and then take stock at the end of the campaign. The most concrete interest has come from Saudi Arabia at this stage. While such a destination can’t be totally ruled out, he’d rather stay in Europe.
Our Take on Atalanta, Lookman, and Ederson
It’s tough to convince La Dea to sell their stars in normal situations, even more so during the winter and while they are in trouble in the standings. It’d be a stunner if either departed. It’d happen only if they receive an offer so large that they don’t think it will still be there in the future, as was the case with Mateo Retegui.
