Liverpool eyeing Brendan Rodgers as Arne Slot replacement
Liverpool are reportedly considering bringing back Brendan Rodgers as a replacement for the misfiring Arne Slot should he face the sack.
According to Fichajes, Liverpool are considering some of their options to replace Arne Slot, with former boss Brendan Rodgers also a candidate. The Merseysiders are yet to decide on Slot’s immediate future amid dwindling results of late, as the 52-year-old former manager could be considered in some capacity.
Liverpool are unlikely to face a shortage of options in the managerial market should they part ways with the under-fire Arne Slot. The Dutchman has come under the spotlight following Liverpool’s dreadful run of nine defeats in their last 12 games across all competitions.
Consecutive home defeats to Nottingham Forest and PSV Eindhoven have brought about fresh turmoil at the club, with the Dutchman likely to be given only a few more games to turn things around. Earlier reports stated he could be given time until the end of the season, but those losses have further reduced the grace period.
A host of names have been discussed in the media, including former Tottenham boss and recently relieved Nottingham Forest manager Ange Postecoglou. PSG man Luis Enrique is a high-profile name on their list, while there are a few others that Liverpool might consider if they end up parting ways with Slot.
Andoni Iraola is also a big candidate under consideration, but they are also looking at 52-year-old former manager Brendan Rodgers, possibly in the immediate term. Whether the former Leicester City and Celtic boss is seen as a long-term solution remains the question, although he might suit their cause as an interim head coach.
Will Liverpool appoint Brendan Rodgers?
There are big doubts whether Liverpool are indeed seriously considering re-appointing the 52-year-old former manager. Given how his time at the club ended and the relative lack of success since, barring his time at Celtic, does casts significant doubts over the choices made by the Merseysiders.
Moreover, they have a lot of high-profile managers on their list, including former boss Jurgen Klopp, which makes a return for Rodgers to Anfield unlikely. As mentioned earlier, should the club consider him as an interim manager, the links might make sense to a certain degree.
