Sunderland formulating offer to sign Santiago Gimenez

Sunderland will reportedly look to sign 24-year-old Mexican international Santiago Gimenez from AC Milan in a deal worth €30 million in the coming weeks.

According to an update by Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur, Santiago Gimenez is the subject of interest from Sunderland. The Black Cats are keen on reinforcing their offensive unit by signing another striker in the winter transfer window. So, the 24-year-old AC Milan centre-forward has emerged as a target for the Wearside outfit.

The Resistencia-born striker is also a target for West Ham United, with Brentford, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Real Betis vying for his signature as well. However, Sunderland will aim to beat the competition to Gimenez’s signature, as they have prepared a bid worth €30 million to secure his services.

How has Santiago Gimenez fared at AC Milan?

Santiago Gimenez has struggled to make his mark since joining AC Milan from Feyenoord earlier this year. While the 24-year-old was among the world’s most prolific strikers during his spell in the Eredivisie, he has not been impressive during his stint with AC Milan. Additionally, he has steadily fallen in the pecking order under Massimiliano Allegri.

The Mexican international has managed only 768 minutes of game time across 11 appearances in all competitions thus far in the 2025/26 season, chipping in with one goal and two assists. However, Gimenez’s stock in the market remains high, with West Ham United and Sunderland among the prospective suitors vying for his signature heading into the winter transfer window.

Premier League adventure on the horizon?

Santiago Gimenez has been on West Ham United’s radar for a long time, and they wanted to sign him before he joined AC Milan. The continued interest makes sense, as the Hammers want a new striker due to Niclas Fullkrug’s fitness issues. The veteran German striker is eager to leave West Ham in the winter transfer window, with the East London outfit ready to cash in on him. So, Gimenez is a viable target for West Ham.

As for Sunderland, the Wearside outfit signed multiple strikers in the summer transfer window, and Brian Brobbey has been a solid backup player for Regis Le Bris. However, the Black Cats are not done in the market, and they want another striker heading into the winter transfer window. So, Gimenez is an option worth considering, with Sunderland preparing a bid worth €30 million to land him.

Sunderland and West Ham United are not alone in the race to sign Gimenez, with Brentford, Eintracht Frankfurt, and Real Betis also vying for his signature. It will be interesting to see if Sunderland can beat the competition to the 24-year-old Mexican striker’s signature by sealing a deal worth €30 million.
