Chelsea begin move to sign Mike Maignan, ahead of Juventus in race

Chelsea are preparing to get ahead in the operation to sign Mike Maignan next summer and are currently ahead of Juventus in the race.

According to Sky Sport France, Chelsea are the front-runners in the race for Mike Maignan and lead Juventus in the hunt. AC Milan are resigned to losing the 30-year-old French international on a free transfer next summer, with the Blues using the advantage gained with their pursuit of the keeper since last summer.

Mike Maignan will be a big topic of discussion in the offices of AC Milan, as they are now resigned to losing the 30-year-old French international on a Bosman deal next summer. The Rossoneri have tried their level best to renew the keeper’s contract, but so far they have failed to get it over the line.

Maignan is ready to leave Milan next summer and does not intend to sign a new deal at the San Siro, which has alerted some of his key suitors. Bayern Munich are thought to be keen on the keeper, while Chelsea have been pursuing him since last summer, when they could not agree on a fee with Milan for the transfer before the Club World Cup commenced.

Juventus are also in the race, and seemingly prepared to offer an attractive contract to sign the 30-year-old French international on a free transfer next summer. The prospect of coming to Turin will be attractive for Maignan, given that the keeper is settled in Italy to a degree.

However, Chelsea are currently ahead of the pack, particularly Juventus, especially after they have had good connections with the player’s camp since last summer. They might have convinced Maignan to choose their project last summer itself, as they were prepared to sign him on a Bosman move in 2026 after failing to land him back then.

Chelsea front-runners for Mike Maignan

Maignan brings a level of experience currently ranking in Chelsea’s goalkeeping ranks, and it was no surprise that the club went for him to replace Robert Sanchez. The latter’s improved form negates the need for a new stopper in January, but the Blues are ready to bring the 30-year-old French international in place of the Spaniard next summer.

Incidentally, they may even consider keeping Sanchez even after signing Maignan, as it could be current second choice Filip Jorgensen who could leave. Overall, Chelsea are in the driver’s seat in the race for the Milan stopper, who is reportedly keen on playing in the Premier League.
