Koné Expected to Stay Loyal to Roma Despite Interest
Manu Koné has continued to grow after a rocky summer during which Inter tried to lure him away from Roma and has some big fans in his home country, but he’s set to stay in January to help the Giallorossi’s Scudetto quest, La Gazzetta dello Sport informs (via Tuttomercatoweb).
The midfielder didn’t push his way out, but also didn’t shut the door on transferring while addressing the recent transfer window. Barring an unforeseen humongous offer, it’ll be a matter for the summer.
While Inter could try again, Roma are bracing for the Ligue 1 giants barging into the race, as PSG and Olympique Marseille are both keen on Koné. The reigning French champions could offer €45/50M, which would be tough to turn down for every side.
The powerhouse has played every minute of every Serie A game. He’s coming off his maiden assist. The Giallorossi snared him for €18M from Borussia Dortmund in July 2024. He has totaled 61 appearances, notching 2 goals and 4 helpers, since moving to Italy and has 12 caps with France.
Our Take on Roma and Koné
It’s rare for transfers of this caliber to happen in January anyway, even more so in teams that are vying for the biggest prize. The real challenge and objective of the capital club will be to hold onto him next summer as well. While his sale would be an easy fix for their Financial Fair Play problems and pretty routine for the current state of Serie A, they should do everything in their power to avoid it for a couple more years to preserve the competitiveness of their squad. A top-four finish would help a lot, and they are well on their way.
