Jamie Redknapp comes out in support of Arne Slot despite another Liverpool defeat
Liverpool legend Jamie Redknapp has come out in support of Arne Slot despite the Reds suffering yet another defeat.
Defending champions Liverpool suffered their sixth league defeat on Saturday at the hands of Nottingham Forest. We are only 12 matches into the season, and the Reds have already suffered more defeats than they did last time out in Arne Slot’s first season.
The pressure has started to mount on Arne Slot, who has failed to get his team going despite having spent a fortune to bolster his squad in the summer. While fans have started calling for him to be sacked, the Dutch manager has received surprising support from former Liverpool midfielder and renowned pundit Jamie Redknapp.
While speaking on Sky Sports, the 52-year-old Englishman suggested the fans need to be patient with Slot, given what he achieved last season.
He said via the , “They [Liverpool] need to be patient, Arne Slot deserves that after last year.”
The Reds were absolutely sensational last season under the Dutch manager. They dominated the proceedings and secured the league title without much difficulty. However, things have been completely different for Arne Slot’s men this time out as they have won six and lost six out of their 12 outings.
The Merseyside club were completely outplayed by Nottingham Forest on Saturday, and it has led to further speculations about Slot’s place in the team. However, Redknapp believes the club must remain patient, as the tragic loss of Diogo Jota and the slow adaptation of their new signings have played a major role in their inconsistent performances so far.
The defeat to Nottingham was their second loss at home this season. They find themselves in a very difficult position, and Slot has certainly started to feel the heat. However, the board might not rush into any decisions with regard to his future, after having backed him in the summer with some big-money signings.
They will certainly look to back him for as long as possible. However, if he fails to turn things around in the weeks ahead, the Merseyside club might not have too many options to play with.
