Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso gives update on Trent Alexander-Arnold – “He has…”

Real Madrid return to action after the international as they face Elche at the Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero on Sunday. They currently lead La Liga by three points, although that deficit could be wiped out by kick-off, given that Barcelona host Athletic Club on Saturday afternoon.

Since the draw at Rayo Vallecano two weeks ago, Real Madrid have had a number of injury issues to deal with. Eder Militao, David Alaba and Franco Mastantuono are expected to miss out against Elche, but the rest are fine, according to head coach Xabi Alonso (via Diario AS).

“All of the international players are fine, with a good atmosphere. We go to Elche, they may be a promoted side but they are giving a good level. It will be a demanding game. Everything remains the same, we are looking forward to facing these games in La Liga and Champions League that are important, we need everyone.”

Alonso has also confirmed that Trent Alexander-Arnold is close to making his first start in over two months, with the English defender having been phased back in slowly pre-international break following a hamstring injury.

“He has used this break to train and get better. Of course Fede can still play at right-back, but we also have Trent who’s in good shape now. Raúl Asencio and Eder Militao can also play there. We have several options.”
