Wolves make approach for James Trafford for January move

Wolves are reportedly interested in signing 23-year-old English goalkeeper James Trafford from Manchester City in the winter transfer window.

According to a report by TEAMtalk, Wolverhampton Wanderers are keen on signing James Trafford from Manchester City in the winter transfer window. The Black Country outfit have submitted an enquiry over a possible move, and Manchester City will demand around £25-30 million to part ways with the English goalkeeper.

The Englishman joined Manchester City in a £19 million deal during the summer window, but he has not been able to hold down a regular spot. Italian international Gianluigi Donnarumma is currently the first-choice goalkeeper at Manchester City, and Trafford needs to leave the club to play regularly.

The English goalkeeper needs regular opportunities at this stage of his career. Sitting on the bench at Manchester City will not benefit him. It will be interesting to see if he is prepared to move to Wolves to play regularly. The Black Country outfit are fighting for survival in the Premier League, and joining them might come across as a step down for Trafford.

The 23-year-old is certainly a very talented goalkeeper with a bright future. It remains to be seen what he decides. Regular football at Wolves might bring out the best in the player once again and help him get back to his peak form. If Trafford manages to impress with them, he might be able to secure a big move in the future once again.

However, there is always the risk of Wolves going down to the Championship at the end of the season. Ideally, the Manchester City goalkeeper will want to compete in the Premier League regularly. It will be interesting to see if a loan move can be worked out by all parties.

Wolves are looking to survive in the Premier League, and signing a top-quality goalkeeper like him could prove to be a masterstroke for them. Trafford was outstanding in the Championship last season, and he was instrumental behind Burnley’s promotion. He could now prove to be the catalyst that helps Wolves secure safety in the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United are interested in the player as well. They are prepared to pay around £30 million to get the deal done. It is fair to assume that Trafford will be attracted to the idea of joining them instead. The Magpies will be able to offer Champions League football, and they are likely to stay in the Premier League consistently as well. It remains to be seen how the situation develops.
