Juventus monitoring Atalanta’s Ederson ahead of January move

Juventus are reportedly intensifying their pursuit of Atalanta’s Brazilian midfielder Ederson, making him a major “suggestion” for the upcoming January transfer window, according to a report from the Gazzetta dello Sport – via Calciomercato.

The interest in Ederson, which had been set aside during the summer, is now being strongly revived as the Bianconeri look to reinforce a midfield where they currently lack options. Ederson is seen as a crucial player who could potentially challenge Locatelli for a starting role, offering both defensive protection and quality on the ball.

The 26-year-old midfielder has previously been on the radar of top English clubs, with Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, and Newcastle all having tracked his progress in recent months. The continued interest from outside Italy serves to confirm Ederson’s high profile and quality, which only increases Atalanta’s bargaining power in the domestic market.

However, Atalanta is not prepared to let the player leave cheaply or easily. The only condition for an “early goodbye” in January is an offer that guarantees an immediate or deferred payment of a substantial figure, reportedly exceeding €40 million. Given Juventus’s current Financial Fair Play constraints, the club will need to get creative, likely proposing a formula like a loan with a mandatory obligation to buy to secure their highly-rated target.
