Dayot Upamecano not keen on Liverpool move

Dayot Upamecano is reportedly not keen on a switch to Liverpool, with Real Madrid among the front runners for the Frenchman.

According to Christian Falk on CF Bayern, Dayot Upamecano is not considering Liverpool as one of his next destinations ahead of a crucial period in his career. The Reds were linked with the Frenchman to replace outgoing compatriot Ibrahima Konate, although the Bayern Munich star may prefer Real Madrid among others.

Liverpool’s need for a new central defender is no secret, as they tried to sign Marc Guehi at the end of the summer window. Crystal Palace pulled the plug on the deal in the last minute, which has since not gone down too well in Merseyside.

Ahead of January, Liverpool are widely expected to bring in a new defender, although all of their top targets might only be made available in the summer. One other problem faced by the club is the future of Ibrahima Konate, with the defender stating he will decide his future very soon.

Liverpool could potentially lose Konate on a free transfer next summer when his deal expires, and they have set their sights on several options, including compatriot Dayot Upamecano. The Bayern Munich star is also in the final year of his deal, and while Bayern Munich remains locked in contract talks, there’s always the chance he leaves as a free agent in the summer.

Upamecano could be the ideal target for Liverpool, although the 27-year-old is not keen to join the Merseysiders. Instead, he has three options on his mind, which involve staying at Bayern Munich or joining Real Madrid instead. PSG are also interested in Upamecano, with the 27-year-old also considering a switch back to his homeland.

Real Madrid favourites to land Dayot Upamecano

Upamecano will reportedly prefer a switch to Real Madrid, who are already preparing an offer for the Frenchman. The Spanish giants are still thinking about sorting out the futures of some of their existing stars like David Alaba and Antonio Rudiger, with the duo coming to the end of their respective deals next summer.

Real Madrid are also linked with a move for Ibrahima Konate, and there could be a chance they land both the French defenders on free transfers. Bayern Munich, for their part, are eager to keep Upamecano, and are still hopeful of agreeing a new deal for the 27-year-old Liverpool target.
