Roma make contact for Tottenham’s Mathys Tel

Roma is actively working to bring French talent Mathys Tel to the Italian capital, making contact with Tottenham Hotspur in hopes of securing a loan deal for the attacker in the upcoming January transfer window.

According to a report from La Gazzetta dello Sport, the 20-year-old, once hailed as a “new French crack,” is the top target for Roma’s coach Gian Piero Gasperini, who is looking to strengthen the team’s threat on the left wing.

Tel Dissatisfied in London

The French U-21 international, who can play across the offensive line, is unhappy at Tottenham. His dissatisfaction stems from limited playing time, including being excluded from the Champions League squad following the arrival of former Juventus player Randal Kolo Muani.

Tel has made just 8 appearances this season, only three of which were starts, despite netting two goals, including a crucial one against Manchester United ten days ago. While Tottenham exercised a €35 million option to buy Tel this summer and is not interested in a permanent sale for now, the option of a loan deal in January is viewed as the best solution for all parties involved.

Roma Hopes for Quick Loan

Roma see Tel, who previously spent time at Bayern Munich and Rennes, as the ideal player to inject pace and penetration on the left flank. After a summer transfer pursuit for Jadon Sancho (who eventually joined Aston Villa), the Giallorossi have now focused their efforts on the Tottenham man and are pushing to execute a loan transfer to reinforce their attack for the second half of the season.
