Mathys Tel could be allowed to leave Tottenham in January, player unhappy
Tottenham could facilitate a loan exit for unhappy attacker Mathys Tel in January, with AS Roma interested in the French forward.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness, Tottenham could allow Mathys Tel to leave on loan in January. The Frenchman is reportedly unhappy at the club due to a lack of an important spot in Thomas Frank’s plans, as AS Roma are angling for a move in the winter window.
Mathys Tel joined Totternham last January on loan with a significant buy option in place, and it was a surprise that the club made the signing permanent despite his below-par displays. Spurs reportedly paid a €35 million fee to Bayern to take the attacker off their hands, although his time here has been underwhelming since.
Starting with his omission from Tottenham’s Champions League squad, Tel has not played a significant role elsewhere, barring the cup clashes. In the league, the Frenchman has started only three out of the eight games he has featured so far, which has left him unhappy with how things have gone so far.
Moreover, Tottenham have been missing forward like Dominic Solanke and Randal Kolo Muani, which may have led to Tel achieving more minutes. Meaning, once those forward returns, he could have further issues in playing with any level of regularity under Frank.
As things stand, Tel is unhappy with how his time at Tottenham has gone by and would be open to making a switch elsewhere to play regularly. AS Roma are considering a move for the 2025 Tottenham signing, with the north Londoners ready to let him leave on loan in the winter window.
AS Roma are eager to sign Mathys Tel
As per the report, Roma are set to prioritise a forward signing in January, and they have Tel at the very top of their list. He’s not the only forward that Gian Piero Gasperini likes, as Manchester United’s Joshua Zirkzee is also part of their thinking.
While the report states that the 2025 Tottenham signing might be allowed to leave on loan, that may entirely depend on how soon the club can have their injured forwards back in action. Moreover, they can also register Tel for their Champions League squad in January, which may make any exit difficult for the Frenchman.
