Barcelona define conditions to seal Marc Guehi move, Liverpool ahead in race

Hansi Flick’s Barcelona have reportedly defined the conditions to sign 25-year-old Liverpool defensive target Marc Guehi.

Marc Guehi’s future has been a massive talking point for months. While he ended up staying at Crystal Palace despite being linked with a move away throughout the summer, the English international is expected to be on the move in 2026, and there is no shortage of takers.

According to a report from Fichajes, Barcelona are one of the clubs that are keen on signing the 25-year-old. The Catalan giants have already laid down the conditions under which they will sign Guehi.

While the Spanish giants are ready to incorporate him into their team, they will have to battle Liverpool. According to Cadena SER, the Merseyside club are leading the race for his signature. After having missed out on his signature in the summer, the Reds are well prepared to get a deal done next year.

Guehi hasn’t looked back since joining Palace from Chelsea in the summer of 2021. Not only has he established himself as one of their mainstays, but he is also widely regarded as one of the best defenders in the Premier League.

The Palace skipper has entered the final year of his deal at Selhurst Park. While he was on the verge of joining Liverpool in the summer, the deal didn’t go through. However, with a new deal nowhere in sight, his departure is almost certain.

Barcelona’s pursuit of Marc Guehi depends on finances

While a winter move looks unlikely as Crystal Palace won’t want to lose one of their most important players mid-season, he looks set to join a bigger club in the summer as a free agent. Barcelona are keen on acquiring his services, as they consider him an ideal profile to bolster their backline.

Having lost Inigo Martinez in the summer, they certainly need more quality at the back. However, they won’t participate in a mass auction because of their complicated financial situation. They will only go ahead with it if the financial conditions are favourable. Their salary cap will determine their ability to secure Marc Guehi’s services.

Liverpool front-runners to sign Guehi

As a result, Liverpool are in the driving seat to acquire Marc Guehi’s services. Bruno Alemany believes the Merseyside club already have the deal pretty much wrapped up.

He said via : “I think he’s a fantastic center-back. He plays on the left, although he’s not left-footed, but he’s good with his left foot. I think he’d be a great signing, but I think Liverpool have it pretty much wrapped up,”

The Reds did a lot of work during the summer to bring him to the club. They have maintained relations with his camp, and certainly have a head start over other interest clubs
